CCHRC housing was a collaboration between the ²ÝÁñÉçÇø Office of Sustainability and the nonprofit . Their use as student housing through ²ÝÁñÉçÇø Residence Life was discontinued in fall 2019.

Students were involved in designing and building the village of four 1,600-square-foot, four-bedroom homes on ²ÝÁñÉçÇø property near the CCHRC headquarters. 

Each house has a unique combination of wall assembly, foundation and heating and ventilation systems. Researchers with the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory, who now occupy the CCHRC building, monitor each home for energy consumption, electricity use, indoor air quality and ground temperature.
