The Graduate School supports the creativity and productivity of our graduate students as they pursue their discoveries here at ²ÝÁñÉçÇø. We oversee graduate programs, academic processes and policies at ²ÝÁñÉçÇø. We support grad students through our professional development and training programs, orientation programs, social and wellness events, advisory board, and scholarships and fellowships. We work closely with departments and programs to follow students’ progress and are ready to help with questions and concerns. We host a student advisory board to guide our practices and programming.

In addition to degrees in distinct disciplines, we offer a graduate interdisciplinary program where students can design a degree that draws on multiple disciplines.

²ÝÁñÉçÇø offers 19 Ph.D. programs, 48 master's degree programs, 17 graduate certificates, and several post-baccalaureate certificate programs.

²ÝÁñÉçÇø our students

²ÝÁñÉçÇø enrolls over 1,000 students in graduate studies from all 50 states, and numerous territories and countries around the world. Our students pursue both professional and research degrees. Graduate study areas span the arts, business, education, engineering, humanities, Indigenous studies, and social and natural sciences.

  • 972 students were enrolled in graduate programs, including 611 master's students and 282 doctoral students, in the 2023-2024 Academic Year.

  • ²ÝÁñÉçÇø awarded 209 graduate degrees, including 178 master's degrees and 31 Ph.D.s, in 2023.

  • We rank in the top 10 of 700 universities conducting geoscience research in the United States.

  • We have the highest number of publications and citations in Arctic research of any university in the world.

  • We are ²ÝÁñÉçÇø's research university, supporting over 350 graduate assistants each year.

  • Paul H. McCarthy Award accepting applications

    October 09, 2024

    Individual undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines at the University of ²ÝÁñÉçÇø are eligible and invited to apply for an award of $2,500 to support their research using the ²ÝÁñÉçÇø and Polar Regions Collections and Archives at the Elmer E. Rasmuson Library. One award is available annually. The deadline to apply is Nov. 3, 2024, by 11:59 p.m.
