Ice Box, the undergraduate literary journal at the University of ²ÝÁñÉçÇø Fairbanks, is now accepting submissions for its 2025 print issue. The journal, published annually by ²ÝÁñÉçÇø students, seeks original fiction, nonfiction, poetry, hybrid writing, and visual art from current undergraduate students across all ²ÝÁñÉçÇø campuses.

Submissions are open until Dec. 15, 2024. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in at least one class at ²ÝÁñÉçÇø during the 2024–25 academic year, including those attending ²ÝÁñÉçÇø’s rural and community campuses. Ice Box editors review all entries through ENGL 475: Practicum in Literary Publishing, a spring semester course in which students gain hands-on experience in editing and producing the journal.

Ice Box is a unique opportunity for ²ÝÁñÉçÇø students to see their creative work in print. The literary journal welcomes submissions from all undergraduate students, whether they’re studying here in Fairbanks or attending classes remotely through ²ÝÁñÉçÇø’s community campuses.

Students can submit up to three poems, fiction or nonfiction up to 6,000 words, or three pieces of visual art. Hybrid work, which blends genres or formats, is also encouraged. Each submission must follow specific guidelines, including blind submission requirements to ensure fairness in the review process.

Since its inception in 2001, Ice Box has evolved from a student zine into a professionally produced journal. It has consistently provided a platform for emerging ²ÝÁñÉçÇø writers and artists, offering them exposure and recognition. Volume 21, the upcoming 2025 issue, will continue this legacy, featuring student work in print.

In addition to submitting creative work, students interested in learning the process behind publishing a literary journal can enroll in ENGL 475 this spring. The course provides experience in every aspect of the editorial process, from reviewing submissions to designing the final print layout.

Submissions are accepted via an online form at . Students submitting in multiple genres are asked to complete a separate form for each genre. For more information, visit the Ice Box website or contact the editorial team at uaficebox@gmail.com.
