Trip description:
We will be hiking a couple of miles to a cabin in the hills near the outskirts of Fairbanks. This mid April wilderness cabin overnight provides a great outing before we start to lose our snow. The remote setting provides a relaxing break from the busy student life too. Trip cost includes food, transportation, gear, and trip leaders.
Schedule:
Thursday, April 10th - 6pm
- Come to OA for a required pre-trip meeting. Please bring all the gear you are planning to take on the trip.
Saturday, April 12th
- 8:00am - Meet at OA, load up and head to the trailhead
- 10:00am - Snowshoe into the cabin
Sunday, April 13th
- 8:00am - Breakfast
- 10:00am - Packup and head back to the vehicles
- 4:00pm - Arrive at the vehicles
- 5:15pm - Arrive back at Outdoor Adventures
Things to bring:
- Sleeping bag
- Sleeping pad
- Backpack
- Snowshoes
- Winter weather hiking boots
- Hiking Poles
- Shell Jacket
- Shell Pants or snow/ski pants.
- 2-Synthetic long underwear bottoms (1-light and 1 heavy)
- 2-Synthetic tops (1-light and 1-heavy)
- Fleece pants or puffy pant
- Fleece jacket or wool sweater
- Puffy coat
- 3- Pairs of warm (wool or synthetic) socks
- 2-Warm wool or fleece hats
- 2-Gloves and/or Mittens
- Neck gaiter and/or face mask
- Cup, bowl, fork and spoon
- TP in zip lock bag
- 2-one liter water bottles
- Personal medication, necessary toiletries
- Book, journal and pencil, playing cards
- Headlamp
- Camp booties for in the cabin

Refund Policy:
Payment in full is required to sign up for a trip. A 100% refund is available if you notify the Outdoor Adventures office of the cancellation more than two weeks (14 days) before the first day of the trip. Cancellation one week to 3 days (13 to 3 days) before the trip entitles the participant to a 50% refund. No refund is provided if the participant does not show up or cancels 2 days prior to the trip.
Safety and Risk Management:
Due to the nature of outdoor travel there are certain inherent risks in all of Outdoor Adventures’ trips. Acceptable risks include but are not limited to; hiking over rough uneven terrain with a heavy backpack on, hiking up and down steep inclines with icy patches, having wet feet and clothing. Conditions may include below zero temperatures, snowstorms and high winds. Driving risks may include slick roads, poor visibility and wildlife. ²ÝÁñÉçÇø is a wild place - you need to take ultimate responsibility for your own safety as only you can. For your protection we require you to carry health insurance. You can purchase insurance for $2.60/day from the University (ask for details).
