The Story
An assassin for hire has arrived…at the wrong house! And this house is a doozy. She must complete the job but the place is overrun with visitors. Wait a minute –– she thought he was dead?! Between phone calls, reluctant clients, beaus and ex-beaus, everyone wants something from her, but what does she want?
The Director/Playwright
Kavelina Torres is an Assistant Professor of Indigenous Media at ²ÝÁñÉçÇø. They received their MFA in Creative Writing from The University of British Columbia where they studied scripts and scripting in addition to prose and graphic novels. They have a bachelor’s degree in Indigenous Filmmaking from ²ÝÁñÉçÇø. Kavelina has been a part of many productions such as Growing Native, Boat Buyers, Christmas Crazier, Big Miracle, Messenger, Bodies of Water, Feels Good, Molly of Denali, and has made their own films, Yugumalleq and The Wild Witch. In addition to Something in the Living Room, Kavelina’s theatre production credits include Machinations and Little Bits, and Bob and Bones. Their film Yugumalleq was aired across the US on PBS and FNX. Professor Kavelina is a 2014 Sundance Indigenous Film Program Alum.
Information on cast/crew
The Cast
The cast is a talented mix of Film & Performing Arts majors, ²ÝÁñÉçÇø students from departments
across campus, and Fairbanks community actors. Ditter Tritt, who made her Theatre
²ÝÁñÉçÇø debut last spring in Tumyaraq-qaa, leads the cast playing Cora Alice, along with senior FLPA major Flyn Ludington (Sweetie)
and Fairbanks actor Charlotte Gray (Jules). Fairbanks community actors Hank Nuwer
(The Professor), Neal Charlie, Jr. (Edward Jimmie), Tim Ott (Fat Cat), Skylar Davis
(Cowboy), Virginia Parr (Johnny), and Jacob Lawrence (Young Man) all make their Theatre
²ÝÁñÉçÇø debuts. FLPA majors Dey Van Acker (Officer Ramsey) and Jessica Wohlwend (Nathaniel),
alongside English Department Creative Writing graduate student, Nora McIntyre (Tok),
also make their Theatre ²ÝÁñÉçÇø debuts. Veteran FLPA major, Hannah Greene, rounds out
the cast as Co-ed.
The Design Team
Leading our design team are Set Designer Alex Gagne-Hawes and Costume Designer Stephanie
Rivet. Seamus Knight (Lighting Designer) and Hannah Greene (Props Designer) are both
Film & Performing Arts majors in ²ÝÁñÉçÇø’s Department of Theatre & Film who are working
on this production towards their degree completion. Jas Stokes (Stage Manager), Rori
Katnigg (Sound Designer), Zorissa James (Costume Assistant), and Alex Armstrong (Video
Technician) are all students at ²ÝÁñÉçÇø. Stephanie Wright (Lighting Menor) is an ²ÝÁñÉçÇø
Fellow for Inspiring Girls Expeditions ²ÝÁñÉçÇø at the International Arctic Research Center at ²ÝÁñÉçÇø.
Department Spotlights
Ditter Tritt (Actor: Cora Alice)
You can call her Ditter. She first acted in the 1995 Arctic Village nativity scene where she was cast as one of the angels. That role led to no Hollywood offers, but she played Naaq the Navigator in last year’s Tuma Theatre production of Tumyaraq-qaa.
Flyn Ludington (Actor: Sweetie)
Flyn is thrilled to help Kavelina Torres, in whatever capacity, launch Something in the Living Room to the stage and screen. Flyn is a seasoned performer. She had her first paid screen acting job at age 14, attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City, and locally has appeared in (and worked on) too many shows to count! She also co-founded and currently helps to manage a radical local community radio station, KWRK-LP 90.9 FM. Her parents are Megan McCarthy of Butte, Montana and Fairbanks, and Milton Ludington of Everson, WA and Fairbanks. They facilitate ALL SHE DOES! She is also a single-mother of two kids and she was born, and has lived the majority of her life, upon the stolen lands of the Indigenous Peoples of ²ÝÁñÉçÇø.
Stephanie Rivet (Costume Designer)
Stephanie is the Costume Shop Manager and Costume Designer for Something in the Living Room. She is a graduate of ²ÝÁñÉçÇø with a B.A. in Film and Performing Arts. Previous costume design work includes Theatre ²ÝÁñÉçÇø's Tumyaraq-qaa, Seminar, The Misanthrope, and Stop Kiss as well as FST's Titus Andronicus.
