Federal Work-Study
A work program that offers funding for part-time jobs for students with financial need, as determined by FAFSA data.
What Is Work-Study?
Federal work study (FWS) provides part-time jobs for students with financial need, allowing you to earn money for school while gaining work experience that can help you succeed in your future career after you graduate from your degree program. Unlike other aid programs that are applied directly to your scheduled bill, FWS is paid directly to you through a biweekly paycheck based on hours worked during the pay period. Students must apply and be hired through a department that uses FWS funding and placement is not guaranteed.
Federal Work-Study Eligibility Requirements
- Enrolled at least half-time status (6 credits for undergraduates and 5 credits for graduates)
- Maintain a 2.0 GPA & Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
- Have financial need as determined by FAFSA data
- If you have questions regarding your eligibility for the FWS program, please contact the Office of Financial Aid.
Next Steps for 2025-26 Academic Year
Accept or decline your FWS award in UA Online
Wait for Further Instruction
Wait for communication from the office of financial aid regarding directions on how
to apply for a job on campus and/or apply to the FWS pool position when it opens for
the 2025-26 academic year.
Financial aid recommends waiting until end of June/beginning of July to apply for
jobs as most departments will not likely be hiring for the upcoming academic year
until closer to the start of the fall 2025 semester.
